A Cake Worth Driving For.
Hi Fellow Humans! Do you know who loves cupcakes? I love cupcakes, cake, and all things yummy. Sprinkles make everything better. Tiny morsels of the rainbow deliciousness. However, food doesn't love me. My name is Stephanie, and I am one of 32 million people who have a food allergy.
Food Allergies Galore
Those affected often require a special diet. Often times this requires special meal preparation and elimination of the substance that causes an allergic reaction. Special events such as weddings, birthdays, and going out to eat celebrations are often met with anxiety and dread. Questions like what are the food options available to me? If they have a gluten free or allergy friendly menu...am I at risk for cross contamination? How can I keep myself from getting sick yet enjoy the party.
Despite an increase of allergies per the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention report that between 1997-1999 and 2009-2011, food allergy prevalence among children increased by 50 percent. Restaurants that are considered allergy friendly are far and few in between. So, when you find a place that can accommodate your food restrictions....you(cough...cough...I) cherish it. Even if that means driving across town.
