Texas Tax-Free Weekend is Coming!

UPDATED AUGUST 2, 2024

Just a friendly reminder, you are human and I am human. I strive to create content that is accurate and current. However, we are human, please do your own research and make the best decisions based on your circumstances.

Have you heard of Tax-Free Weekend?

If the answer is no....tax-free weekend is a temporary reduction or elimination of taxes during a period of time. Generally associated with back-to-school shopping.

While performing research of this article I learned that other states offer it with other things such as energy efficient appliances, firearms and ammunition purchases, and weather preparedness. I have only known tax free weekend to pertain to school supplies.

So, when is Tax-Free Weekend?

It varies state by state, for those participating. For Texas, tax-free back to school shopping is August 09-11 2023. Ending at midnight of the 13th of August.

What Applies?

Only qualifying purchases made during the time frame. Purchases have to be from a Texas operating business in store, online or from a catalog. (Just saying I miss the JC Penny and Toys R Us catalogs.)

Items such as clothing, shoes (for everday wear), and school supplies (paper, pens, binders, backpacks, etc.) priced under $100 can be purchased tax free during the specified time.

You can find an extended list at:

Do you participate in the back-to-school shopping

during your tax-free weekend?

I generally don’t. I have to purchase school supplies for 4 children. Stores tend to limit quantities. I make purchases over time leading up to school starting. I also find going to the store when “everyone” else is going overwhelming. Stay safe and please check out my blog post for closing out summer 2023.
